As temperatures rise, snowy habitat for white-tailed ptarmigans and other
wildlife is disappearing at an alarming rate.

Throughout this year, climate change has severely flooded and scorched habitat
and homes across the country. Enough is enough: Wildlife need climate action now.

Call on your senators to pass climate action legislation before the end of the
year–our future depends on it.

TAKE CLIMATE ACTION

The white-tailed ptarmigan is the only North American bird to live solely in
alpine habitat–above the tree line in mountainous regions. Warmer winters with
less snow shifts that tree line farther upslope, reducing habitat for these
striking birds. If Congress does not swiftly take action to combat climate change, white-tailed
ptarmigans’ loss of range and fragmentation of habitat could result in dwindling
food sources and reduced genetic diversity.

A strong clean energy economy–one that provides good-paying jobs for American
workers–can help reduce our dependency on costly and environmentally harmful
fossil fuels. Transitioning to renewable energy sources is a vital step in
solving the climate crisis and protecting wildlife from further habitat erosion,
destruction, and fragmentation.

Congress has the opportunity to pass legislation that would help reduce
climate-disrupting carbon emissions and extend our nation’s clean energy workers
a lifeline. These measures would extend tax waivers for renewable energy
companies put in a pinch by the economic downturn, eliminate the use of a potent
and destructive greenhouse gas, and fund much-needed energy efficiency for
buildings like public schools to reduce expensive energy waste, and more.

By getting Americans back to work increasing access to cheaper forms of clean
energy and upgrading the classrooms where our children and grandchildren learn,
our leaders can make a difference for people and wildlife. Tell your senators to say YES to climate action and NO to loss of vital
wildlife habitat.

Congress must invest now to ensure we’re taking steps towards building a clean
energy economy. Now is your last chance to demand your senators invest in a healthier future
for both people and wildlife before your senators head home for the holidays. If
this legislation fails, white-tailed ptarmigan, snowshoe hares, and other
species vulnerable to climate change could be left out in the cold. John, will you demand urgent climate action
today?
