Missy spent much of her life alone in a junk-strewn pen. PETA fieldworkers checked on her frequently, providing straw bedding and other supplies, but years outside during withering summer heat and
bone-chilling winters took a toll on her body.


During one visit, a fieldworker noticed that Missy's weight was dropping and she
had a raspy cough—telltale signs of heartworm disease. If the dog had any chance
of surviving, she needed immediate medical treatment. Her indigent owner agreed
to release her to PETA's team, which quickly ensured that she received the
medical attention she needed and eventually placed her in a loving home, where
she'd never be forced to live outside again.

TikTok and Zoom's homeless mother gave birth to the pair under a shed in rural
North Carolina during the pandemic. Without a place to call home, she was forced
to scrounge for food, dodge cars, and avoid predators just to keep her babies
safe. But when a kind person found the two kittens alone with no sign of their
mother, the good Samaritan called PETA, and TikTok and Zoom were rescued!

Today, they're flourishing in their new home. Zoom is known to make origami
animals out of blankets, and TikTok has the knack for DIY home improvement—check
