John,

One day in June, Martin Hopkins went to work like any other day. He worked at a Verizon Wireless store in Lancaster, Ohio, where he was the only employee of color. For years, he faced racist comments from customers and mistreatment from managers, but he stuck it out.

Then, despite consistently positive performance reviews and a loyal customer following, Verizon fired him. Will you sign our petition to demand Verizon rehire Martin and confront the racism in its stores?

Racism needs to be dealt with head-on in the workplace—not ignored or swept under the rug. When Martin was subjected to racist slurs from customers, management sent him to work in the back of the store. One manager herself even called Martin a “thug.” But in the face of injustice, Martin excelled and hoped to make a career at Verizon Wireless.

Tell Verizon: Rehire Martin and confront the racism in your company!

Everyone deserves a respectful workplace, free from discrimination and bigotry. Verizon shouldn’t get away with offering anything less.

In Solidarity,

Team AFL-CIO
