Letter from an Editor | December 5, 2020

Dear John,

After the year we’ve had, I feel a bit superstitious saying this, but—this week, we’ve had good news that should make us all feel hopeful.

The incoming Biden-Harris administration has continued to announce their picks for cabinet and high-level positions. And guess what? They’re based on merit—not nepotism. After four years of the Trump administration, I’d venture to guess that many Ms. readers would agree with me when I say it’s exciting to know our country will soon be run by experts in their field.

Our team at Ms. has been reporting on President-Elect Biden’s appointments—from his historic all-women communications team, to international relations picks that are being celebrated by our allies around the world. Catch up on these appointments below.

But while there is certainly cause for hope, it doesn’t mean that we can lose track of the Trump administration on their way out the door. In his final days, Trump is rushing through dozens of eleventh-hour policy changes, solidifying conservative policy rules and regulations that will make it harder for the Biden administration to advance its agenda or reverse the damage of the past four years.

We cannot let our excitement for the future prevent us from holding the Trump administration accountable during this dangerous ‘lame-duck’ period. Keep up the fight.

For equality,
