Friend, At the beginning of May, the House passed the HEROES Act, a bill that would not only put money directly into the hands of those who need it, like our community in Brooklyn, but would also allocate money to local and state governments across the country. And now, with so many suffering from food and housing insecurity around the holidays, surely the Senate is working on passing the bill, right? No. The Senate Republicans went on vacation last week and decided not to help the American people through this pandemic.
Now that the election is over and Joe Biden is the President-Elect, it’s time for Mitch McConnell to stop blocking this piece of legislation. The American people do not deserve Republicans in Washington playing politics with their lives. Right now in Brooklyn we’re working hard to make sure we’re able to keep our schools open and keep the virus at bay, but to do that Americans need financial relief. By passing the HEROES Act, we’ll be able to get key housing resources to those in need, not to mention restore unemployment benefits, aid small businesses, strengthen food security, ensure worker safety, and much more. It’s been six months since the House passed this piece of legislation, and it is clear that Republicans like Mitch McConnell only care about political advantage and not the American people.
