With the year coming to a close, we want to give credit where credit is due, celebrate your accomplishments, and hand out some awards. This month, we’re highlighting the Stand Up America volunteers who went above and beyond in 2020 by texting, writing letters, and volunteering their time to help win the White House and reclaim our democracy. 

So without further ado, let’s get into some special community shout outs:

Our Top Texters 

A little over a year ago, the Stand Up America organizing team was just a crazy idea our Digital Director, Joe, dreamt up to grow what was at the time a few dedicated textbankers into a full volunteer organizing team. Today, it’s a bustling community of over 8,000+ volunteers who have texted over 36 million voters from home, helping them to get registered to vote, request an absentee ballot and send it in, or turn out to vote in person. Here are our top texters for 2020:

🥇Stacy from Denver, CO -- 475,956 messages to voters

🥈Emily from Greensboro, NC -- 462,503 messages to voters

🥉Elizabeth from Menlo Park, CA -- 368,426 messages to voters

Together, Stacy, Emily, and Elizabeth texted more than 1.3 million voters. That’s huge considering Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won crucial swing states like Arizona and Georgia by only tens of thousands of votes.

Our Top Letter Writers

This year, thousands of SUA community members wrote personalized letters to voters as part of The Big Send, a multi-organization campaign to get unlikely voters to cast a ballot this year. We had volunteers from across the country craft great messages and put them down on paper, and we want to give special shout outs to:

Collectively they sent 8,211 letters to voters, urging them to make their voices heard. 

Robin says: “Writing the letters proved to be very cathartic. Whenever the political scene became too stressful, I was able to write my letters and feel like I was doing something positive.”

Thank you for all we accomplished together this year -- we’ve got big things on the horizon for 2021. The presidential election may be over but our work is just beginning. We’re looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and working to strengthen our democracy alongside all of you, our amazing community of volunteers.
