John,
It has been a long four years. As we patiently await Inauguration Day, I can’t help but to reflect on all the extraordinary success this team has achieved.
Amidst a historic recession, global pandemic, civil unrest, and a climate crisis this year, California turned out for a generation-defining election. No one knew that 2020 would be fraught with so many challenges or how it would impact the election and its traditional methods of reaching out to voters.
Just as these challenges have impacted every Californian, every business and every region of our state, the California Democratic Party was not unscathed. But Californians are resilient and California Democrats - even more so. Despite so many unprecedented challenges, California Democrats played a critical role in many historical flips including taking back the White House, holding key Congressional seats, building even stronger majorities in the State Senate and State Assembly, and winning at the local level. Through the pandemic, the party quickly adapted to meet this historical moment by adapting and moving to digital organizing. We transitioned from mobilizing activists from a more traditional campaigning approach to a tech-based peer-to-peer method. Instead of community activists meeting at a local field office to help volunteer and knock on doors, Democrats across the state embraced the realities of our new socially distanced world by mobilizing in the comfort of their own homes, while staying safe and getting out the vote.
As a result, we sent a Black and South-Asian woman, a daughter of immigrants, a proud HBCU graduate, and Oakland’s very own Kamala Harris to the White House. Joe Biden won thanks to your help. We harnessed our grassroots power and executed an unprecedented organizing program under unparalleled circumstances.
As you know, we worked hard and long hours. Together we: *

If you registered voters, phonebanked, donated a couple of bucks, textbanked, voted for the first time, supported our people-powered message online, sent our emails around to a few folks, joined a campaign, organized your community, if you played a part however small or big — we are so grateful for you.
But the best part of working at the California Democratic Party? All of this work continues, and in 2021, we have a chance to build upon our momentum.
To build a better party, a better state, and a better nation through our collective work. That’s why I’m encouraging all interested California Democrats to apply to run for 2021 ADEM elections by December 15, 2020 or register to vote in these elections by January 11, 2021.

To tackle the challenges ahead, we must continue rolling up our sleeves and doing the work that powers democracy.
