John,

Joe Biden is done playing games with Republicans in the Senate and is urging Congress to pass a coronavirus relief bill before Inauguration Day.

Luckily, he’s not alone in the fight. After conversations with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the Democrats have clearly outlined the need for priorities such as small business aid, money for state and local governments, expanded unemployment benefits and “affordable health care for millions of families,” according to Biden’s transition team.

But Biden’s calls are falling on deaf ears. Mitch McConnell has made it clear that helping working families comes with a price tag he isn’t willing to pay, especially not for state or local governments.

Now, many are calling on Biden to simply appease McConnell and side with a narrow Republican relief bill that blocks out increased unemployment benefits, another round of stimulus checks, child care provisions, and any aid to state and city governments.

Some say anything is better than nothing, but the truth is millions will continue to struggle without expansive action. As Democrats fight for larger relief, we believe the people should have a say in what Congress prioritizes. Please, tell us what you think:

Do we need a meaningful coronavirus relief bill?
