Hi there,
We’re simply bursting with joy over the victory of our endorsee Congresswoman-elect Marilyn Strickland, who will become the first African American U.S. representative in Washington’s history and one of the first three Korean American women to serve in the 230-year history of the U.S. Congress.
What does this mean for our country? Well, Congress will benefit from the expertise of a proven leader who transformed the city of Tacoma by passing paid family leave, raising the minimum wage and protecting workers’ rights.
But more than that, it reaffirms what we’ve long known to be true -- that diversity makes us stronger. Marilyn’s father, who fought in World War II and the Korean War, and her mother overcame unimaginable hardships to give her the tools to succeed. She’s a graduate of public schools and colleges, and earned her MBA from an HBCU, Clark-Atlanta University. Marilyn’s exactly the kind of person who should be serving in Congress, and we’re so glad that she will be.
There’s no doubt about it -- we can build on this victory and usher in a new day of representation for AAPI Americans and those of all backgrounds, in Washington and around the country. But our Republican colleagues have other ideas. Believe it or not, the next race for control of the House started on November 4, 2020, and FiveThirtyEight’s Geoffrey Skelley doesn’t mince words: “Republicans are on track to take back the House in 2022.”
It’s a simple question. Do you want more Marilyn Stricklands representing us in office? Or are you content to sit back and watch the GOP strip away everything we’ve accomplished so far?

Thank you, thank you, thank you -- for helping us elect Marilyn this year and for all you’re doing to make sure she gets the backup she needs next time around.
