Hi, Donald Trump is determined to destroy as much as he can before he leaves office -- including Social Security. With just weeks remaining in the Trump administration, he's pushing through last-minute changes will make it harder to apply for Social Security benefits, and harder to keep some benefits once you're signed up. It's a cruel, senseless policy. But the Biden-Harris administration can put a stop to it as soon as they take office. We need to make sure they know we expect them to make it a priority. Sign the petition: Stop Trump's attack on Social Security! In the 1980s, the Reagan administration implemented one of these rules. And Reagan's policy ripped away the Social Security benefits of 200,000 Americans with disabilities. The Trump administration proposal would require millions of Social Security beneficiaries to re-prove their eligibility for benefits as often as every six months -- far more frequently than is currently the case. The New York Times reported that during the Reagan administration "people with obvious physical and mental disabilities" lost their benefits "without having been interviewed" by the Social Security Administration. This led to the loss of 21,176 lives of people who relied on their Social Security benefits to survive. And, while Reagan was eventually forced to reverse his attack on Social Security after massive public outcry, the Trump administration is bringing back this cruel policy with no regard for history or human life. He's determined to hurt millions of people out of spite. Last year, we fought back against this proposed rule change and submitted more than 130,000 public comments in opposition. Now, we must call on the incoming Biden-Harris administration to rescind these dangerous, last-minute rule changes by the Trump administration and fire all of Donald Trump's political appointees from the Social Security Administration.
