Hello,

Two razor-thin congressional elections in Iowa and New York remain unresolved -- courtesy of ongoing recounts and legal challenges. The bad news? Democrats are falling behind, by thin margins, in both districts.

Per POLITICO, “Losing those districts will leave Speaker Nancy Pelosi with even less room for error as she attempts to muscle through legislation under a new Democratic president, after already seeing 12 Democratic incumbents ousted in the 2020 election. These races could mean the difference between a 5-seat and a 7-seat majority.”

These races might not be determined by the time the 117th Congress meets in January, leaving the seats unfilled. Let’s face it, Democrats didn’t perform as well as we expected in 2020 -- rather than being bolstered by a landslide blue wave, our power in the House will now come down to a few votes.

We need to ensure that we don’t find ourselves in this position again. That means empowering more Democratic voters each election cycle and funding Democratic candidates across the country (especially those in tight races), all while reworking our message to expand our reach and include more voices in the decision-making.

Democrats in Congress are standing against Republican opposition on everything from a pandemic relief bill to sensible criminal justice reform. We don’t assume those battles will be resolved in one term, but we need to up our grassroots funds to ensure we at least continue to move forward, not backward, when it comes to the issues that matter most to us.
