When I visited the border in April, I saw firsthand the cruel and abhorrent conditions. It’s enough to make your stomach turn. As Americans, we must demand better of our country than this.
I’m doing everything I can to draw attention to President Trump’s self-created humanitarian crisis and ensure that children and migrant families are treated with humanity and compassion. Yesterday, I stood with Senate Democratic leaders and helped introduce the Stop Cruelty to Migrant Children Act to end family separation and the unacceptable conditions at our southern border.

Democrats and Republicans may not agree on every immigration policy, but safe and humane treatment of children and families should clearly bridge the partisan divide. When children are facing cruelty at the border, it’s on all of us to speak out and take action to make it right.
The Stop Cruelty to Migrant Children Act will fight to reverse the family separation policy and ensure that we are no longer inflicting trauma and harm on migrant children and families.
