"Home is a place where you have close relationships and it doesn’t necessarily have to be just one place. I've always been very ambitious, but not having the proper visa or documents limited how much I could dream in the U.S."
— Beleza Chan, a formerly undocumented immigrant who left the U.S.
Our dreams and lives were never meant to be held back by the confines of the U.S. borders, John.
Today, we are excited to share our newest project “Life Outside the U.S.: Transcending the American Dream.” Through this project, we uplift the stories of formerly undocumented immigrants who are pursuing opportunities outside the U.S. due to the uncertainty and limitations they faced in this country.
We acknowledge that undocumented immigrants are in an unjust state of flux given our tumultuous political climate here in the U.S. and options abroad may seem out of reach. Through this project, we hope to expand people's understanding of real possibilities beyond the U.S. The stories and resources in this project are rooted in the lived experiences of those who have left the U.S. and will guide those who are looking to explore possibilities to pursue their dreams elsewhere.
From a checklist of things to prepare for the journey ahead to a discussion of potential paths to return to the U.S., Life Outside the U.S. is a comprehensive project that opens up new possibilities for undocumented immigrants through engaging stories and clear information.
On Tuesday, December 15, project leads Beleza Chan, Alejandro Espinoza, and Katharine Gin will lead a live conversation about their vision and hopes for the project.
We hope to see you then!
