John --
On Tuesday, December 15 from 6:30-7:30pm ET/3:30-4:30 PT, join our Atlanta chapter for a teach-in on the elections in Georgia.
After a powerful win against Trump & Trumpism in Georgia during the election this year, many eyes remain fixed on Georgia as run-offs for two pivotal Senate seats continue. These elections could determine our ability to win legislation for survival: stimulus relief, Medicare for All, Green New Deal, and other life saving measures. And, these senate races are only one of many ways that the fate of Georgia and the rest of the south is intimately bound up in our collective pathway to liberation. We know that an entire ecosystem of organizing led primarily by Black women in Georgia over decades brought us to this point, and that investing long-term in their work is our best hope to win this fight and the fights in Georgia that are happening out of the spotlight and far into the future.
As Steph Guilloud of Project South and Will Cordery of Leverage Philanthropic Partners said in this brilliant article that you should absolutely read from start to finish, “We could allow the national frenzy to overrun Georgia and distract from the long-haul movement building we are doing. Or we can catalyze this spotlight and energy into a powerful burst of momentum towards the bigger battles to come. The difference will be in how seriously we take social movements, and whether we can effectively counter the old and predictable patterns of a run like this.”
On Tuesday, December 15 from 6:30-7:30pm ET/3:30-4:30 PT, join the RG Atlanta chapter for a teach-in on the elections in Georgia. They’ll share some of the political context informing this moment (why does Georgia have run-offs, anyway?) and the powerful work they’ve witnessed and taken part in this year. Plus, you’ll leave with key ways for y’all to get involved -- in the short term and over the long haul. Register for the teach-in on December 15th here!
