The National Commission on Military Aviation Safety on Dec. 3 called on the military services to increase pilot flight hours and overhaul how they manage maintainers to drive down high mishap rates. After studying more than 6,000 mishaps from 2013 to 2018 and meeting with personnel at 80 locations, the commission found that maintainers are overworked and dragged down by extra duties, the military’s aircraft parts supply and depot systems are troubled, and pilots are not flying enough, the commission said in a Congressionally mandated report.
