People For Member -- While countless people continue struggling financially across the country, Georgia Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler have raked in MILLIONS from the pandemic – exploiting their positions in Congress to line their pockets. As members of the U.S. Senate, Perdue and Loeffler received confidential briefings at the start of the pandemic and just days later dumped stock that later tanked as the virus surged across the U.S., while buying up massive amounts of stock in companies that specialize in personal protective equipment and teleworking software – companies whose business has boomed during the pandemic.1, 2 It’s corruption, it’s greed, it’s pandemic profiteering. The people of Georgia and the nation deserve better. With lucrative careers in the business world, Senators Perdue and Loeffler have treated their positions in the Senate as just another way to continue amassing massive amounts of wealth. Former business executives turned senators, both Loeffler and Perdue knew the serious threat the virus posed to the country and as they publicly played down the threat to their constituents, behind the scenes they were buying and selling millions of dollars’ worth of stock.3 Both Loeffler and Perdue have denied knowing anything about these stock trades – claiming their portfolios are managed independently – and would rather Georgia voters not believe what their eyes and ears are showing them. This type of corruption, greed, and self-dealing is why People For has launched an emergency campaign for our Georgia Runoff Fund, and we have just 48 hours to raise another $41,739 or we’re going to have to scale back our voter outreach campaigns at this crucial moment! This isn’t the first time Perdue’s stock trading raised more than a few eyebrows. Once chair of the Senate subcommittee on sea power, he bought and sold stock in a company that equips submarines – making upwards of $50,000 on the sale. It doesn’t stop there; during just one term, Perdue bought and sold stock 2,596 times! Perdue shamelessly exploited the information he obtained from serving on the committee to serve his own financial interests rather than the needs of his constituents and the nation.4 Further adding to Loeffler’s egregious conflicts of interest is that she once sat on the subcommittee on commodities, risk management and trade while married to the president of the New York Stock Exchange! And even though Loeffler stepped down from that subcommittee earlier this year, she still sits on the overarching committee that oversees legislation in which she has a clear conflict of interest! All donations 3X-MATCHED! Thankfully Georgia residents have a clear alternative to the corruption and greed that have defined Perdue and Loeffler’s time in the Senate: Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock. Help make sure that Georgians get the representation they deserve in the Senate.
