John,
We're just wrapping up the opening plenary, The 2020 Rainbow Wave and Its Impact, during the first day of the 2020 LGBTQ International Leaders Conference. As journalist Kate Sosin, Delaware state Senator Sarah McBride, Georgia state Senator Kim Jackson and San Diego Mayor-elect Todd Gloria discussed the historic impact of their races and the value of LGBTQ voices, I was struck by the power of Victory Institute’s work to train and support such amazing LGBTQ leaders.
Right now, we’re focused on crafting our 2021 budget, and we’re working on growing programs that cultivate the Next Generation of LGBTQ leaders. Will you make a tax-deductible donation to help these essential programs grow?
Each of these newly elected leaders from our panel shattered a lavender ceiling in 2020. Yet it’s hard to believe that despite the enormous progress we’ve made, countless states haven’t elected an out trans state legislator or elected an out LGBTQ person to their state Senate. There have only been a handful of out Members of the U.S. Congress, two out U.S. Governors and two out U.S. Senators.
Adding new LGBTQ voices at all levels of government and shattering more lavender ceilings can seem daunting. But when I hear our electeds speak about what making history means to them, how Victory Institute helped them shatter a rainbow ceiling and the overwhelmingly positive response from LGBTQ youth in their state, I know we must keep working for progress. Will you power our work with a tax-deductible donation to support the Next Generation of LGBTQ leaders?
Thank you for standing with us,
Seth Schermer
