GOP Attacks Legislature Democrats for $3.8M in Irresponsible and Wasteful Pork and Patronage in a Time of Crisis
Buffalo, NY - Republican Executive Director Jesse Prieto issued the following statement calling out the Democratic County Legislators for gross irresponsibility in a time of crisis.
“It’s disgraceful that businesses are laying off workers and thousands are filing for unemployment while Democrats in County Hall are voting for wasteful pork-barrel spending. At a time when budgets are stretched so thin that we can barely afford basic necessities, Erie County Democrats voted to add $3.8 Million of pork-barrel spending to the county budget. This includes $2.1 Million for so-called "Urban Initiatives" and $1.7 Million for a pork and patronage slush fund. This whopping 50% increase in pork-barrel spending is unprecedented and shows exactly how out of touch Democrats are with the citizens of Erie County," said Executive Director Jesse Prieto.
"Where is the relief for small businesses? Where is the aid to help schools obtain the testing they need to stay open under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s increasingly harsh mandates? The taxpayers of this community will not stand for this reckless spending and blatant self-interest. This isn’t the time for photo-ops and feel-good give-aways to political cronies. The voters expect you to work to solve this budget crisis, keep schools open, and help businesses put people back to work."
