Hi there,
Despite his crying, Trump's about to become a public citizen again on January 20 -- and that means he's also going to be subject to the same Twitter guidelines as everyone else. As NBC News reports:
"Twitter places 'public interest' notices on some rule-breaking tweets from 'world leaders' that would otherwise be removed. ... But the company said it's treatment does not apply to former office holders. ... 'This policy framework applies to current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold these positions,' a Twitter spokesman said in a statement."
This is promising news. For too long, Trump has been allowed to glorify violence and spread baseless lies about his presidency and political opponents -- with disastrous results. And so far, he's received very little pushback from his preferred platform.
Listen -- in many ways, the damage from Trump's misinformation campaign has already been done. But for our country to recover from his disastrous presidency, we think that Trump losing his nearly 90 million Twitter followers would hinder his lies from spreading like wildfire and ultimately be a HUGE step in the right direction. But we need to make sure that our most ardent supporters are on the same page, so please tell us your view now:
