Dear John,
On November 12, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, National Association of Secretaries of State, and other groups released a joint statement ([link removed]) noting that the November 3 election was the most secure in American history (See also Chris Krebs: “This Election Wasn’t Rigged ([link removed]) ”). And their evidence included something we’ve advocated for since 2004, "All of the states with close results in the 2020 presidential race have paper records of each vote, allowing the ability to go back and count each ballot if necessary."
Voter-marked paper ballots are at the core of Verified Voting’s advocacy. Without them, voters can’t check that their votes have been accurately recorded, and election officials have no way to go back and check the counts. This election cycle, we’ve seen just how important this step is.
Here’s our Co-Director Cris Landa on the critical role that paper ballots play in election security:

We’ve come a long way, but like Cris said in her video, there are still many paperless voting machines out there. Help support our work with a gift today ([link removed]) - and stay tuned for more from our team on what’s next for election security.
With thanks,
The Verified Voting Team
