For decades, architects of voter suppression have peddled a false narrative of rampant voter fraud as an excuse to push for new voting restrictions that target marginalized communities.
Let’s be clear: voter fraud is a myth. We work hard to encourage eligible folks to vote just once – no one is putting on mustaches and hats to vote multiple times. But that hasn't stopped leaders in Georgia and in Washington from perpetrating the myth.
The intention behind deliberately misleading claims of voter fraud is to foster intimidation and to justify voter suppression laws and tactics.
You see, not only does voter suppression work to stymie votes, it also creates an atmosphere of fear that exercising your constitutional right to vote can cost you your job or your freedom.
As long as we have eligible American citizens who cannot cast a ballot, then the system is rigged against voters. Because in a democracy, every eligible voter should be able to have their voice heard and their ballot counted.
The lies about supposed voter fraud will continue, so we're fighting back with the facts.
Will you chip in whatever you can to help us combat the myth of voter fraud and overcome voting restrictions that seek to intimidate and disenfranchise eligible voters?
While the tactics of voter suppression may be partisan and the intended victims may be marginalized communities, broken tenants of democracy hurt us all.
