Hi John -
As 2020 comes to a close, we wanted to share how thankful we are to be in community with you. This year has presented unimaginable challenges, grief and pain but despite it all, you have continued your commitment to reproductive justice and for that we are so grateful.
Check out what’s going on this month:
Want to Talk about Abortion with Your Loved Ones?
You’re in luck! Caitlin Blunnie with Reproaction and Isabel Blalock with NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland are hosting two special holiday trainings to give you all the tools you need to talk about abortion with your loved ones this holiday season.
Training 1: How to Mobilize Your Loved Ones to Take Action for Abortion Access
Thursday, December 10
6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. ET
Sign-up here.
The majority of Americans support access to abortion. As we approach 2021, it’s more important than ever that we educate and mobilize our communities. But getting a loved one to take action (especially more than once) is a big challenge.
This first training will help you identify opportunities to mobilize your loved ones to take action. Participants are welcome to bring their own questions for discussion.
Sign-up here.
Training 2: How to Talk about Abortion in Challenging Spaces
Wednesday, December 16
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. ET
Sign-up here.
How we talk about attacks on abortion access plays a crucial role in our ability to shift from playing defense to actually winning, but having conversations with loved ones who aren’t supportive of abortion rights can be difficult.
This second training will show you how to identify abortion stigma, bust myths, and have real transformative conversations with your loved ones. We will talk about the impact abortion stigma has on healthcare access, policy and our communities. Participants are welcome to bring their own questions.

- So-called “abortion pill reversal” is dangerous, and it targets the most vulnerable patients with shame and deceit instead of health care. That’s #BadFaithMedicine. Learn more here.
- In the late 90s, Congressman Ron Wright (R-TX) wrote that “Black English is troubling as a national phenomenon, but it is particularly dangerous in Texas.” Watch his horrific statements here.
Self-Care
In this moment of uncertainty, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. Reproaction’s strategic plan affirms the importance of self-care, especially in activism and resistance.
Here are our self-care tips for November:
-
Give yourself grace. This year has been filled with uncertainty, loss and grief. This month focus on the things that nourish you and allow yourself the space and grace to grieve. - Caitlin, organizing lead based in Alexandria, Virginia
-
Make a joy-list, which is a list of all the things you like to do that bring you joy. When the winter blues descend upon you, read over your list and commit to doing the things on it. Need something to listen to? Gabby Rivera, author of Juliet Takes a Breath, has a delightful podcast called Joy Revolution where they discuss with guests what brings them joy and how they incorporate it into various aspects of their lives. -Eva, organizer based in Columbia, Missouri
-
Rest. This year has been a tough one, and allowing yourself to rest can be incredibly hard, especially around the holidays. Give yourself permission to rest for a while in your favorite way. My favorite way to rest and recharge is to curl up with a good book or take a long nap under a ton of blankets with my dog. - Nataley, organizer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
-
Try not to work from your bed. - Nijeria, organizer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Self-care is an act of resistance. Be good to yourself. For some tips on how you can reduce stress, check out this resource.
