John,
There’s no question that Donald Trump’s presidency has tested our democracy, exposed its weaknesses, and left it in a more vulnerable place than it’s ever been before.
Of course, Trump still has time to do damage—and we’re watching for and working to guard against the many abuses he may commit on his way out the door. But with a new administration beginning in just a few weeks, a new day is at hand.
CREW has been planning for months (and years) for the possibility of bold reforms after the darkness of the Trump era.
Yesterday we released our report on the comprehensive reforms that our democracy needs to come back stronger after the corruption, cronyism and abuses perpetrated by Trump and his administration. Read more here, and share it with your friends and family.
I can’t lie: The list is long.
But that’s because the past four years have exposed that we are not just facing one problem, or one corrupt president; we are facing many interconnected, urgent crises. Which is why CREW released a 170 page report in eight parts. It’s not going to be easy to fix our democracy, and it’s not going to take just one fight.
If you’ve felt frustrated by the lack of consequences for violations of the Hatch Act, the dangerous nepotism in the White House and the challenges with enforcing the Emoluments Clauses, CREW’s new report will show you what needs to be done.
In the next few weeks, we will be spotlighting some of the most urgent reforms, and what you can do about them. In the meantime, please read our report and share it with your friends and family. It’s time to realize that a better government is possible, and it’s time to plan for how we are going to make it happen.
Thank you, as always, for standing with us,
Noah Bookbinder
