Team—as I’ve learned in the Vermont Statehouse and Congress, we should always aim for a more ‘perfect’ bill to tackle an issue, but the lure of perfection should never derail the good we can do here and now.

As we head into a difficult winter, and the specter of COVID-19 relief expiring for millions of people at the end of the year, that lesson has never been more true. If we can’t unite to extend student loan relief, renter’s protections, unemployment benefits, small business aid, and funding to fight hunger, the suffering throughout the country will be even more brutal than it is now.

The American people need COVID-19 relief—now. And we need to get it out as soon as possible, even if we might lose some things on the bargaining table. If you agree with me that passing relief legislation as soon as possible should be a priority for Congress, add your name now:

It’s true that with a divided Congress, a version of relief we can all agree on may not provide everything we need. But at this point, time is running out and we need to deliver whatever aid we can now, even if it isn’t perfect.

Shutdowns are increasing and cases are rising exponentially. Every day we don’t act brings us closer to disaster. If we don’t act to ensure COVID-19 relief extends through the winter, millions of Americans will suffer and it will take President-elect Biden and Congress much longer to reverse the crisis we’re in.

If you agree that Congress should prioritize comprehensive aid to Americans as soon as possible, add your name:

Hang in there,
