Republicans are like the hydra of ancient legend -- for every head they lose, two more grow back in its place.

Sure, Trump is on his way out -- and was even kind enough to begin the presidential transition process before going. But a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll shows that 53% of "Republicans and Republican-leaning independents" would back Trump in 2024 if he were to run again.

Don't get us wrong -- there's nothing we'd love more than defeating Donald Trump a second time, and it'd be a historical anomaly one-term president to return to replace his successor four years later.

But there's a lot that's historically unprecedented about Trump, and we don't want to put anything past him -- a presidential comeback is just the kind of reality TV twist he'd love to pull off. But even if Trump himself doesn't run in 2024, there are many other heads of the hydra: for instance, Trump's national security advisor, Robert O'Brien, has started discussing a 2024 bid per POLITICO. Other names in contention include Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, and even the Trump children.

They've certainly got an audience full of ready-made followers who will no doubt be furious with whatever happens under the Biden-Harris administration and who will no doubt be waiting for them if they do run.

We've been proud to play such an instrumental role in defeating Donald Trump (and we're impossibly grateful for your help). But now it's time to get a jump on the other threats shaping up to strike back at Democrats and our best efforts at progress going forward -- and even though we should be readying for those dangers, we simply don't have enough resources to do so.

Many Democrats have stopped giving. We know it can be tough to see these future GOP candidates as the threats they are right now, especially when so much seems to be going positively for progressives. But if you had the chance to start working against Trump in 2012, four years before he won, wouldn't you have taken it?

That's the chance we have right now. Let's prepare for as many heads as the Republican hydra deems fit to sprout. We'll beat Trump when he comes back, along with every member of his family and his criminal enterprise. But we'll only do it if we're equipped, resourced, and ready. Will you give now to help us guard against the threats coming down the pipeline -- and to show you don't want to give the Republicans another four years to regroup and plan their revenge? >> [link removed]
