Greetings Friend,

Yesterday, December 1st, HB142 expired.

This compromise bill was originally intended as a way to reset HB2 and stop the ongoing divisive fighting surrounding its sensitive topic. It was negotiated by the General Assembly, the business community, and Governor Cooper, who ultimately signed it into law, and was considered to be a bipartisan solution to ending the HB2 fatigue by preventing local governments from enacting chaotic SOGI ("sexual orientation and gender identity") ordinances and prolonging the debate indefinitely. These ordinances would elevate sexual orientation and gender identity to be civil rights, entitling people to file needless and burdensome lawsuits as a way to punish people of faith.

However, there was one major issue with the bill: it contained an expiration date that required legislative renewal, ultimately kicking the tiring can down the road.

We warned that by not making the legislation permanent, we would be opening ourselves up to repeating the fatiguing debate all over again (yet now in everyone's backyard).

And that's exactly what has happened!

On the very day of HB142's expiration, liberal activist groups launched a campaign and mobilized a media blitz designed to re-open the entire debate by targeting the officials of 11 major cities and asking them to pass their privacy and religious-liberty infringing policies.

Although those who want to rebattle HB2 are in the extreme minority, last month WBTV revealed that mayors in North Carolina’s largest cities are colluding with LGBT activists to reboot the old and tired debate on HB2.

At the NC Values Coalition, we've already been quick to respond. We've formed a broad coalition of pro-values partners including Alliance Defending Freedom, Concerned Women for America, NC Family Policy Council, NC Faith & Freedom Coalition, and the Christian Action League and delivered this letter <[link removed]> asking officials not to reboot the divisive debate on HB2. We've also started monitoring city officials to discover which ones are actively pursuing SOGI ordinances, and with the partnership of ADF are already exploring potential legal responses.

This is where you come in. We want to hear from you. Would you consider taking a couple seconds to answer this one question survey: <[link removed]>
