ICYMI: MassDems Hold Gov. Charlie Baker Accountable for RMV Failure

Yesterday, the National Transportation Safety Board released a report ([link removed]) that found that, under Governor Baker's leadership, the Registry of Motor Vehicles failed to perform basic safety functions that led to a backlog of infractions prior to a fatal crash in 2019. MassDems Chair Gus Bickford released the following statement:

“Under Charlie Baker’s watch, the RMV stopped performing basic functions to ensure public safety, creating a backlog of infractions that—as determined in today’s report from the National Transportation Safety Board—contributed to a tragedy affecting so many families. In light of today’s report, the Baker administration can no longer hide from the devastating impact of their dereliction of duty. Governor Baker owes the families who lost loved-ones in this tragedy an apology. And he owes us all an assurance that his administration is now performing the basic safety functions we all assumed were taking place before this terrible crash.”

Republican Efforts to Overturn the Will of Voters Fail

Record High Turnout in Massachusetts
Voters turned out in record numbers for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democrats in Massachusetts because they ran on brighter, better futures for our country and our Commonwealth.
* With over 80 million votes nationwide, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have received more votes than any presidential ticket--leading to historic turnout across the country.
* Here in Massachusetts, 76 percent of registered voters--over 3.6 million people--cast ballots in this election, a record high for our state.
* During a pandemic, Massachusetts voters were able to show up in the way that worked best for them because, while Republicans aimed to keep people from the polls, Democrats made it easier to cast a ballot.
* In preparation for an unprecedented election process, the MassDems embarked on one of our most extensive voter education and voter protection programs yet.
+ Almost 65% of voters cast their successfully ballots early in person or by mail
* Massachusetts had one of the highest margins of victory in the country for the Biden-Harris ticket, and Democrats won down the ballot as well.
+ Massachusetts Democrats flipped three seats in the state legislature and two seats on the county level, defeating some of our Commonwealth’s most far-right incumbents.
* Voter’s voices were heard loud and clear: they’re ready for candidates with bold, positive visions for our future, and those candidates are Democrats.

Republican Efforts to Overturn the Will of Voters Fail
Trump’s admitted it himself: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won this election. After weeks of chaotic and frivolous lawsuits that have been thrown out of courtrooms across the country, it’s time for Trump and his Republican allies to accept the will of the American people.
* Even Trump’s attorney general has admitted reality--there is no evidence for Trump’s claims: “We have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”
* With 39 losses in court, Trump and his allies’ attempts to change the outcome of a free and fair election are “a national embarrassment.”
* Trump’s lawyers have reached a dangerous new low, with one calling for violence by saying the former head of U.S. cybersecurity should be “taken out at dawn and shot.”
* Every state where Trump has tried to overturn the will of the voters--including Arizona and Wisconsin--has now certified Biden’s win.
* Trump can call into fake “hearings” organized by his campaign all he wants--it won’t change the fact that he was the first president to lose reelection in decades.
