Dear John:
People across the country need help NOW to survive the COVID-19 crisis. Congress provided $1,200 checks on March 26. That was 251 days ago–less than five dollars a day to survive the worst economic disaster of our lifetime. Please call your senators now and tell them that relief can’t wait!
Fifty million people in the U.S. are hungry.
Twenty million people could lose their homes when evictions expire at the end of the year.
Fourteen million people have been infected with COVID-19 and our for-profit health care system is falling apart.
In the richest country on Earth, these numbers are a disgrace.
The Senate needs to get serious about saving people’s lives and well-being. Mitch McConnell is more worried about saving corporations and their profits. The people he cares about–the billionaires–have gotten almost a trillion dollars richer since the pandemic began. While 50 million people in the U.S. don’t have enough food, Jeff Bezos alone scooped up $90 billion.
Congress must act now to protect workers and communities, not corporate executives. Our response to this crisis must fight inequality, not double down on the unjust status quo.
We need a real People’s Bailout, which would:
-
Guarantee health care during the pandemic;
-
Cancel rent and end evictions;
-
Extend pandemic unemployment insurance;
-
Include recurring cash payments;
-
Cancel student debt; and
-
Fund green jobs for a just recovery.
Relief can’t wait. We need a People’s Bailout NOW! Call your senators today.
In solidarity,
Sondra Youdelman

P.S. We understand that a new bipartisan proposal was released just yesterday. We're glad to see that the importance of relief is getting traction again, but we need it NOW and we need it to meet the scale of the crisis. Call your senator today: http://ppls.ac/ReliefCantWait
