Make Your Giving Tuesday Gift

Giving Tuesday couldn't come at a better time. We're ramping up our efforts to stop Donald Trump from wreaking havoc on the environment during his last weeks in office and helping set the stage for the Biden-Harris administration to carry out the climate mandate voters gave them, starting January 20. But we need your support to do that work.

Dangerous Days

The Trump administration is rushing to sell leases to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, even though 70 percent of Americans are opposed. “He’s spent his entire time in office offering up our public lands to private industry,” says Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune, “[and] we’ve spent the entirety of his time in office resisting and blocking his attempts to do so."

Write for the Refuge

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has entered the final phase of the process to hold a lease sale on the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This proposal to explore and drill for oil on the refuge threatens Indigenous sovereignty, struggling wildlife and their habitat, and our climate. The BLM is refusing to accept any public comments via email, so let’s fill their mailbox!

Mail a letter in the next ten days stating your opposition to oil and gas leasing in the Arctic Refuge.

Braille Trails and Sensory Gardens

Although an estimated 32.2 million adults in the US identify as blind or unable to see, or experience difficulty seeing even with corrective lenses, many nature-based experiences remain difficult for them to access. But braille trails and sensory gardens are becoming more common as ways to explicitly take the experience of the outdoors beyond the visual.

That Other Plague

Voters this past election had to deal with two plagues: COVID-19 and voter suppression. The latter, an old but effective racist tactic, has inflicted enormous damage to the franchise of Latinos, Black people, and Native Americans. Voter ID laws, the elimination of polling places in communities of color, the sabotage of the vote by mail—all of these strategies have contributed to the undermining of this most sacred civic right.

It's high time we inoculate our democracy against this insidious plague.

Not a Single Major US Bank Will Now Finance Arctic Drilling

The Trump administration may be rushing to sell off drilling rights in the Arctic Refuge, but banks aren’t eager to underwrite its destruction. Yesterday, Bank of America became the last major US bank to pledge not to finance Arctic drilling.

[link removed]
"Even if the Trump administration manages to sell leases before Inauguration Day,” says Senior Campaign Representative Ben Cushing, "there are many reasons to doubt that wells will ever be drilled in the refuge."
