I volunteered at Children's Hospital Los Angeles for years before I became a parent. It's my neighborhood children's hospital, and I was motivated to find a way to give back to my community.
When I would visit, I was always amazed by the energy and love I saw hospital staff give not only to patients, but families as well. It impressed me even then, and now that I have children of my own, I appreciate even more what it means to have others treat you with kindness and compassion when your child is injured or sick.
