Friend—We have just a few more hours left in #GivingTuesday, and we’re still $7,000 short of our goal for the day. So we wanted to make sure you saw the email we sent earlier. Please chip in whatever you can to help Common Dreams stay strong.
Friend,
I wanna be honest. This has been a truly awful year for journalism.
Trust in media is at an all-time low, as a handful of giant conglomerates consolidate and downsize their way to greater profits at the expense of quality reporting. Issues affecting our daily lives, like the massive wealth gap and the climate crisis, get ignored in favor of whatever gets the best ratings and the most clicks.
The result is yet another election in which the corporate media was exposed as being completely out of touch, unable to understand what happened, much less explain it. It's no wonder that so many news outlets keep going out of business.
Common Dreams was founded more than 20 years ago to respond to the crisis in journalism caused by corporate media consolidation. Today, with one political party unwilling or unable to challenge its own corporate funders and the other turning toward outright autocracy, we face not only a crisis in journalism but a full-blown crisis of democracy.
The only reason Common Dreams has been able to fight the corporatization of journalism and survive for more than 20 years is the support of small donors like you, who allow us to operate without taking corporate advertising or putting up a paywall.
For nonprofits like us, #GivingTuesday is one of the most important fundraising days of the year, and we need to hit our goal of $15,000 by the end of the day to avoid a budget shortfall in these crucial times.
Please chip in whatever you can, whether that's $5, $20, $100, or more. All those small donations add up and help make Common Dreams who we are.
