Building the biggest possible multiracial, cross-class movement takes time and resources—there’s no way around that.
Hi, John,
It’s nearing the end of the day and, I’ll be honest, we’re nowhere near hitting our goal for Giving Tuesday. This day really helps set the tone for Sunrise as we approach the next year, and I’m worried about how much we’ll be able to experiment and expand if we come up short.
Here are a few things we pulled off just this year, thanks to the support of our monthly donors:
We launched Sunrise School, which has trained thousands of young leaders to organize for a Green New Deal.
We started leadership programs for Black and Latinx folks to build community in Sunrise and tackle organizing from these unique perspectives.
We created a hub fund to enable any of our local chapters to receive $3,000 in project funding, 3 times a year.
We established a fund to give poor and working class volunteers $600 a month, so they aren’t inhibited financially from taking on more involved leadership roles.
Building the biggest possible multiracial, cross-class movement takes time and resources—there’s no way around it. That’s why our goal of 1,000 new monthly donors today is so vital. If 1,000 people all pitched in just $3 every month, that’s over $30,000 every year that could help more volunteers, get more supplies for hubs, and expand our options for even more ways to support the movement.
