This year has been challenging for all of us, individuals, families, businesses, and our local government. COVID-19 has caused us all to tighten our belts and prioritize what is best for our families and community in this new economy. The reality is dire and we have had no choice but to cut budgets across the board. Many of our city employees, including first responders, are now furloughed almost a month out of the year. What’s worse, is over 40,000 of our residents are unemployed. That is why the three propositions that you'll find on your ballot Saturday are so important to pass now.
If passed, the funds made available by these propositions will be dedicated to repairing our roads and drainage systems, libraries, early childhood education, affordable housing, and workforce development. Once passed, my colleagues on City Council and I will vote on ordinances that will allocate these funds properly. We have a unique opportunity to do this now without raising taxes.
This December let's say yes to local progress, children's success, and housing and income security. Join me in voting yes on all three propositions on the December ballot.
