Hello there,
NBC News has reported that “Asian American swing state early and absentee voting increased 300%” in this election -- the highest among any racial group.
This election cycle, we made significant gains in increasing political visibility for the Asian American community -- and the numbers finally made our elected officials pay attention to some of our most pressing issues.
But that was just the start. The fight to uphold AAPI rights and representation is far from over.
Our community is currently facing a series of challenges that remain largely overlooked by government officials and society as a whole. We’ve experienced increased hate crimes fueled by the racist use of terms like “Kung Flu” and “Chinese Virus” among GOP leaders and Donald Trump. Working families are struggling to make ends meet. And all across the country, Asian American communities, along with other racial minority groups, are suffering from disproportionately higher COVID-19 death rates than white Americans.
That’s why on this Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving power to the people to transform our communities, we’re supporting an organization that strives to change all of that. Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) is an organization on a mission “to advance civil and human rights for Asian Americans and to build and promote a fair and equitable society for all.” We’re incredibly proud of the work they’re doing.
AAJC’s work has been critical in registering voters, ensuring that our electoral process is respected in this election, leading the fight against racial profiling, and combatting stereotypes in the highest levels of government -- and we’re hoping we can count on your support as we help them sustain the fight to protect AAPI rights in our country after such a difficult year. In the spirit of giving, can we count on you to pitch in $25, $50, $100, or anything you can today to be a voice for marginalized communities? >> [link removed]
We couldn’t be more grateful for your support and everything you’re doing to protect Asian American rights in our country.
