Dear John,

My son Tyrell had such a bright future ahead of him. Tyrell was smart, athletic, very handsome, humorous, and had the most amazing smile. He was a husband, married to his high school sweetheart, and a father to their two year old son. But life changed forever on the evening of November 30, 2015 when a detective and a coroner showed up at our house. They told us that there was a shooting and tragically, Tyrell did not survive. He was 23.

I remember telling myself how this could not be happening. How could life be so cruel? For many years, it felt like reality was impossible to face. But eventually, I chose to speak out. I chose to be a voice for Tyrell and the many others whose lives were cut short by gun violence. I joined my local Moms Demand Action Chapter where I first volunteered as the Community Outreach Lead and I now serve as the South Carolina Deputy Chapter Lead.

I decided to join this movement because the work that we do is changing and saving lives. And it's why I'm asking you to support Everytown and Moms Demand Action this Giving Tuesday. Your generous contribution strengthens our work to end gun violence.

I decided to speak out as Tyrell's Mom because his voice was taken. I decided to join Moms Demand Action because we cannot continue to sit by as the number of people killed or wounded by senseless gun violence grows. We cannot allow this to be accepted as our new normal.

That's why on this Giving Tuesday, I ask you to join me in this fight to end the gun violence that occurs across this country. Donate today to Everytown and Moms Demand Action to support our critical work that is changing and saving lives.

Thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Tisa Whack
