In Yemen, Syria and other crisis areas we need your help. Triple your impact »

Hi John,

My name is Bob Kitchen. Over the last year I've led the IRC's COVID-19 response globally.

I coordinate emergency response teams in more than 40 countries, including in Syria where the virus is spreading in refugee camps and Beirut, Lebanon which is facing a surge in cases since the recent explosion.

On Giving Tuesday, I'm writing to tell you three things:
  • Every dollar really does count...especially today when it's tripled.

  • The IRC is in a unique position to respond to this emergency.

  • The impact of your gift will be felt long after Giving Tuesday has passed.

John, when this virus hits a war zone like Syria, it reaches into populations already at high risk. Restricting movement in and out of refugee camps is a nightmare. These camps are dependent on an inflow of supplies, services and materials. And once families are inside a camp, it's nearly impossible to social distance.

Please help us respond to COVID-19 and other crises in Yemen, Syria and more of the world's toughest places. Your gift today will be tripled and can help us:
  • Provide food, medicine and health care to refugees while following heightened COVID-19 safety measures

  • Distribute masks, soap and other essential items to families in refugee camps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

  • Share vital information with refugees regarding hygiene, how to communicate symptoms, when to report to medical personnel, and when to self-isolate

  • Train health workers on how to use personal protective equipment to keep themselves and others safe
COVID-19 is not the only crisis the people we serve are facing. In Yemen, the world's worst, but arguably least remembered, humanitarian crisis, child malnutrition is rising and violence remains a constant threat. In parts of Syria and Afghanistan, the combination of worsening violence and the rapidly approaching cold winter will soon make a dire situation even worse for families who have been uprooted from their homes.

Your gift can help us provide refugees in crisis areas with winter supplies, medical care, emergency food and the other vital services they need now. It can support our programs worldwide, wherever the need is greatest.

John, our work is only possible because of people like you showing compassion and empathy. With your help, we can rise to meet the world's toughest humanitarian challenges, including COVID-19, but we must act now.

With gratitude,

Bob Kitchen
