This year has sparked a new urgency to the gun violence crisis. The summer’s historic calls for racial justice and an end to police violence underscored how racism is intertwined in our gun laws and how much gun violence is rooted in systemic inequities.
With your help, we have been working to address these challenges: creating a first-of-its-kind Office of Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention, partnering with the police-accountability campaign, Initiative 940, and so much more. But it is clear that our work is far from over.
In the year ahead, we must act to address the pressing threat of the open carry of firearms. From armed vigilantes shutting down the Michigan State Legislature to the tragedy in Kenosha to armed civilians patrolling the streets of Snohomish, WA, we have seen far too many examples of the chilling and dangerous impact of openly-carried firearms. We are committed to working tirelessly to pass a policy restricting open carry in the state legislature, but we won’t be able to do it without your support.
You are an integral part of our success. We need your help to ensure that we can continue our crucial gun violence prevention work next year. Please, donate by midnight tonight to ensure your gift goes twice as far.
Thanks so much for your support,
Maureen (she/her)
