Dear Evidence Action Supporter,

What if investing 50 cents in a child today could dramatically improve their life, even 20 years later? We now have evidence that one of our programs does just that. A new landmark study by a team of economists, led by Edward Miguel and Nobel laureate Michael Kremer, demonstrates the long-term benefits of school-based deworming.

The study followed a group of Kenyan students every 5 years over a 20 year period, finding that those who received two to three additional years of deworming increased their income by 13% and consumption by 14% decades after treatment, compared to those who were not treated.

The researchers found that for every dollar spent, each person who received the treatment reaped economic benefits worth, on average, over US$230 - even in the most conservative scenarios modeled. In the communities we serve, these impacts lead to significant improvements in the household’s diet, access to education, health, and housing, and overall living conditions.

For a pill that typically costs less than $0.50 to deliver per child, these significant long-term impacts make deworming an incredibly cost-effective solution. With our Deworm the World Initiative

supporting deworming for hundreds of millions of children each year across Kenya, Nigeria, India, and Pakistan, this study further proves the impact of our work years after children finish school.

Deworm the World is recognized by independent charity evaluator GiveWell as a ‘top charity’ for its high impact per dollar, now for the eighth consecutive year. This Giving Tuesday, your donation can make a difference in a child’s life for decades to come.

Onward together,
