More evidence, less poverty

Hi John,

Earlier today, we shared a message about the positive impacts of just giving people cash during this period of crisis. Cash is a quick and affordable way to support vulnerable households and direct funds to what they need, and has many other positive impacts. But evidence shows that cash is not a miracle cure for everything. Do you know the limits of the effectiveness of cash? Test your knowledge here.

According to the available evidence, unconditional cash transfers are generally an effective strategy for increasing all of the following except:

  1. Assets
  2. Child learning
  3. Food security
  4. Income

Without evidence, decision-makers often have to guess the answers to questions like these. IPA works with researchers and our partners to generate evidence on what works, so organizations and governments can make informed decisions. Support IPA today and your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by an anonymous donor.
