Statement on the Endorsement of John Moorlach for Orange County Supervisor

ORANGE COUNTY, CA - Hon. Fred M. Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement:

"Last night the Republican Party of Orange County voted overwhelmingly to endorse former State Senator John Moorlach for Orange County Supervisor in the upcoming special election to replace Congresswoman-elect Michelle Steel. 

John Moorlach is an experienced and principled legislator who has the experience Orange County needs to address our most pressing issues, from managing the county's coronavirus response to reopening and rebuilding our local economy. His experience in Sacramento will be invaluable as our Republican majority fights Governor Newsom's failed executive orders and Sacramento's constant overreach.

He previously served this district on the Orange County Board of Supervisors for two terms after serving as Orange County Treasurer for 12 years. Very few elected officials know the county better than he does. His leadership and expertise helped Orange County exit bankruptcy and enter stable financial footing before. We will need him again to navigate the economic uncertainty due to the effects of covid-19.

We voted nearly unanimously to endorse John Moorlach before the special election has been called because the nature of a special election gives us a shortened campaign cycle to unite Republicans and execute a winning campaign strategy. Orange County Democrats have already united behind a far left candidate who supports defunding the police, shutting down our economy and will be a loyal foot soldier for Governor Newsom's shutdown agenda. They will be endorsing their candidate in just two weeks.

We have great respect for the other Republicans who have shown interest in this race. The number of qualified potential Republican candidates for this seat speaks to how deep our bench is on the local level. But a Democrat victory in this special election will bring us dangerously close to losing our majority on the Board of Supervisors in 2022. We must coalesce behind one Republican candidate to hold this critical seat. That Republican is John Moorlach.

This endorsement will allow us to begin organizing and working directly with his campaign now. We will be deploying an aggressive field and digital program in support of John Moorlach and secure this seat for Republicans."
