This year of challenges has shown us what we can achieve together, and it’s so inspiring to see Mercy Corps supporters joining in this #GivingTuesday to reach our fundraising goal.
We’re making progress, but we’re not quite there yet. That’s why I hope you’ll make your #GivingTuesday gift of $10 or more now, as part of our $100,000 Tripadvisor Foundation Matching Gift Challenge. Your gift today can match the generous support received from Tripadvisor Foundation to help us make twice the impact. There is so much hurt and need in the world right now, but also so much opportunity to make our world a better place. At Mercy Corps, we believe in the power of people coming together to turn hardship into hope and pain into progress. Let’s make good things happen this #GivingTuesday. Your matching gift will do just that. It’s a great day. It’s #GivingTuesday — a day when people all around the world come together to make good things happen by supporting the causes they care about. And today, on my first #GivingTuesday as CEO of Mercy Corps, I’m hoping you will join me and others around the world as we come together to build a better future, where everyone can thrive. This #GivingTuesday, Tripadvisor Foundation has joined with Mercy Corps to offer a $100,000 Matching Gift Challenge! Be one of the 100 people we hope will make their first gift of $10 or more to Mercy Corps — and together with this generous support from Tripadvisor Foundation you can help us make twice the impact. Help us raise funds that are critical to alleviating poverty and helping people build stronger, more resilient communities in more than 40 countries around the world. Make your #GivingTuesday gift right away. I suspect you’ll hear from several nonprofits today, all worthy causes asking for your support. I invite you to give to Mercy Corps because you believe in the power of working together. Our collaborative approach means we work side-by-side with people to help them realize their own dreams. People like Umayah in Indonesia.
Mercy Corps’ team member Andi (left) shares a moment of connection with coffee shop owner, Umayah.
Umayah runs a small coffee shop where she sells tea, iced chocolate, packaged noodles and other small items for her community — she shared her story with us earlier this year. Seeking to improve her business, Umayah participated in Mercy Corps’ financial training program, where she learned bookkeeping, budgeting and how to create a digital bank account. This has helped her monitor her spending, making it easier to keep the coffee shop stocked and to set aside extra funds. Umayah told us that having a dedicated savings account and seeing it grow motivates her. She’s planning to use her savings to help put her daughter through university because, Umayah says, an education will stay with her daughter for a lifetime. Around the world, small business owners have been rocked this year by the impact of COVID-19, and we’ve seen that women and girls have been disproportionately affected. Mercy Corps is working in the world’s most vulnerable communities to help support people like Umayah through these challenging times. Together, we can be a powerful force for each other — no matter how far apart we are. Help more people build better lives for themselves and their communities with a #GivingTuesday gift. Your very first donation will be matched by the Tripadvisor Foundation, up to $100,000. You can feel good knowing that you are helping us make twice the impact, and and you’ll join thousands of people across the world participating in the #GivingTuesday global movement. Thank you for stepping up for those in need today. Your generosity supports our vital work around the world. Sincerely, Tjada D’Oyen McKenna, Chief Executive Officer |
