This November, Americans were glued to their televisions for nearly a week waiting to see which candidate for president would eke out narrow wins in battleground states like Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Georgia in order to clinch 270 electoral votes. This was in spite of the fact that one candidate had already received the most votes of any presidential candidate in history and led the popular vote by millions.

While in the end Joe Biden managed to secure an undeniable Electoral College victory, one thing is clear: This is no way to pick a president. Here at the NDRC, we're in favor of a simple solution: elect presidents based on the winner of the national popular vote.
