America’s election enforcement agency must be fixed.

“The laws regulating our elections need strong enforcement, but the Federal Election Commission, the agency responsible, is broken and unable to do its job. Congress must act to make it an effective watchdog that can enforce the law. Protect our elections now and end the dysfunction!”

John,

The Federal Election Commission, which has a long history of dysfunction, is supposed to be the agency responsible for enforcing federal campaign finance laws.

But it’s so broken, it can’t do its job.

A few weeks ago, the FEC’s vice-chairman, Matthew Petersen, left his post. His departure brings the total number of active commissioners down to three. What does this mean? The agency has lost its quorum, without which it is unable to hold meetings or make decisions regarding possible violations.

In other words, no one is enforcing our election laws. This is the final straw. We need Congress to act.

Add your name: tell Congress to help fix the FEC now.

America’s election watchdog is sick. Congress could help restore faith in our election system and empower the FEC to become a stronger enforcer of campaign finance law by implementing measures such as:

  • Decreasing the number of commissioners from six to five to break gridlock,

  • Creating a blue ribbon panel to recommend commissioners, and

  • Eliminating the practice of commissioners staying well past their six-year term

Tell Congress to empower the FEC to do its job.

Thanks for your help,
