Rose, age 10, lives in a small Haiti community about six miles from the center of town. Rose’s mother spends each day in search of odd jobs to earn income to take care of her family, but despite her hard work, food for Rose and her family was often in short supply. Rose’s thoughts were consumed by whether she’d have enough to eat, and she frequently went to bed at night with a growling stomach. She woke in the morning feeling weak and dreading the school day ahead. Now, Rose leaves school each day with much more energy, feeling able and eager to tackle her homework. Rose loves to sing. Since she began receiving nutritious Rise Against Hunger meals through a local feeding program, she has made great strides and has set her sights on becoming a doctor someday. |
