John,

On this all-important day of giving, I want to share with you why I care so deeply about the work we do at the Law Enforcement Action Partnership.

I believe that police don't just serve our communities, we are a part of our communities. But the institution of policing as we know needs a lot of work. The entire community -- police and non-law enforcement community stakeholders -- need to work together to envision and implement a better system.

We need to think carefully about what responsibilities need to stay with police and which burdens we need to lift from our own shoulders and give to those better equipped to address the root causes of crime.

We also need to acknowledge how important it is for police to adopt accountability and transparency measures, ensuring that we all -- regardless of our position, occupation, or lack thereof -- are held to the same standard.

Without gaining public trust, we'll never be able to perform our jobs effectively. We are all stakeholders in our communities, and we are all impacted by the justice system.

Your contribution of $25 today will help us invest in solutions that will make the system better for all of us. And we want to know how our work in 2020 has made an impact on you: please complete LEAP's opinion poll on key issues we've taken on in 2020.
