December 2020 Update
Dear John,

In the past month, Momentum Education has made significant progress, and we are excited to share a few highlights.

Firstly, we have welcomed one new team member: Maria Arteaga, a junior at Trinity University, who will be our IDEA Public Schools Coordinator. I am very proud to say that like all of our other interns, Maria is a first-generation student herself and therefore has a personal connection to this work!

Secondly, we held several great events--including College Information Sessions with representatives from Swarthmore College, Houston Community College, and Texas Tech University. We also had wonderful Career Conversations with an HR Representative, a Consultant from Bain, and the CEO of a Renewable Energy Company.

Finally, this month we began preparations for our Leadership Academy where we will support students with programming every year from the day they join the Leadership Academy until the day they graduate post-secondary education and secure a job!

Serving over 750 students is an incredible privilege, and we are confident that with over 19,000 community members working together, we can ensure that 100% of our students get to and through post-secondary education and into the workforce.

Thank you for joining us in this journey, and thank you for sharing your advice with us. Please email me anytime at [email protected] or call me at 713-320-0303 to share ideas and feedback.

Thank you, and let's keep building #OneMomentumFamily!

SCHOOL OF THE MONTH
[link removed]
YES Prep East End is a public charter school in Houston, Texas. We are partnered with YES Prep East End to (1) offer college scholarships; (2) review college application essays; (3) host college and career events; and (4) provide summer opportunities.

Mariana Salazar, a teacher at YES Prep East End, stated that: "The Momentum Education/YES Prep East End partnership has been very beneficial to our students. We love the weekly college/career events. All the events are purposeful, organized, and insightful. Our students have the opportunity to learn about new things and career paths. It allows students to keep on receiving the college/career experience even with the limitations we are currently facing. Our students describe this program as 'helpful,' 'astonishing,' and 'interesting.'

A YES Prep East End 10th grade student said 'I didn't have a clue in what I wanted to be or what I wanted to major in for college, but the zoom call meetings have helped me discover my interests. Now I have some type of idea of what I like and what I don't like. I know that I can depend on Raj or Ms. Salazar to help me with any questions I have, and to get me connected with the speaker in the meeting. I am very thankful to be able to be part of this program and the help they offer students.' We are very lucky to have this amazing program on our campus and to continue finding ways to invest all students."

Thank you to YES Prep East End for partnering with us, and we are honored to support your students!
