Friend,

This has been a tough year. The pandemic has exacerbated many of the challenges already facing our country. With more than eight million more Americans falling into poverty since May, positive cases rising, and unemployment assistance expiring, a lot of folks are hurting and hurting badly.

Although we can't be together in person to weather this storm, there are still several ways you can lend a helping hand to your neighbors. This Giving Tuesday, we need to wrap our arms around the organizations that are working hard to make a positive difference — even in the middle of a pandemic.

I'm lucky to represent countless nonprofits in the Evergreen State who are working around the clock to tackle the most important issues of today: poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity, just to name a few.

If you are able to participate this Giving Tuesday, you can find a nonprofit at helpful sites like Charity Navigator.

Although giving back is important, the American people shouldn't have to face this crisis alone.

That's why the House majority passed a relief bill to provide rental assistance and protections from eviction and foreclosure. It's why the House passed a bill to extend unemployment assistance and to provide another round of payments. And it's why I'm calling for Democrats and Republicans to come together and craft a relief package that meets the needs of the American people.

We will need more kindness, generosity, and resilience if we're going to build back our nation stronger. There's no one right way to give back, so whether you are stepping up to give back today, or you're doing your part differently, I'm incredibly grateful for you.

As always, it's an honor to represent you,

Derek
