Hi John,
The climate crisis shows up in almost every part of our lives and our economy, and ALIGN is committed to making sure that we as a city and state, as a country and the world, show up to meet the challenge of building a sustainable and just future for all our communities. That’s why ALIGN will join thousands of people in NYC for the Global Climate Strike tomorrow, and we hope that you will join us too.
But there are many ways you can be part of the fight for our future, and we need your support right now. ALIGN and our partners are working hard to pass legislation before the City Council that will transform a highly polluting, dangerous, and exploitative private sanitation industry here in New York City. Add your voice to tell City Council Members to pass the bill that will require commercial trash hauling companies to clean up their act. The bill will mandate that companies offer composting, so we can slash the climate emissions that come from organic waste ending up in our landfills from NYC’s restaurants, supermarkets, and every other business. The bill will also slash thousands of polluting diesel garbage truck miles traveled every year, make our city streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and improve working conditions for the men and women who pick up New York City’s commercial trash every night.
ALIGN will also be out tomorrow in solidarity with Amazon workers who are walking out to keep the pressure up on Amazon Inc. to reverse expansion of its massive carbon footprint at the expense of our climate and communities. As one of the largest and most profitable corporations in the world, what Amazon does leaves a huge impact, from accelerating climate change to exploiting workers to polluting our communities.
We hope you’ll come out for all these reasons and many more fights tomorrow, alongside New York City’s healthcare workers, teachers, nurses, doormen, city workers, truck drivers, retail workers, and many more, who are standing in solidarity with youth across the globe.
