John, now that the 2020 elections are coming to an end, I want to take a moment to reintroduce myself.

I’m Hala Ayala, and I’m running to be Virginia’s next Lieutenant Governor. Whether you’re new to this campaign or have been with us since July, I’m asking you to chip in a few dollars so we can start 2021 strong.

I was born and raised in Virginia. I understand our Commonwealth, its history, its challenges, and its many opportunities. As the daughter of a Salvadorian and North African immigrant father and an Irish and Lebanese mother, I understand that our diversity is our greatest strength.

I’m running to be the Lieutenant Governor for our entire Commonwealth, working to bridge the divide we’ve seen in our country and our state. From Southwest to Tidewater to Northern Virginia to Richmond, and everywhere in between. I understand our past, and I know how to bring us forward into the future.

I’m going to be real for a minute: This is not your grandfather’s Virginia. Our beautiful Commonwealth has changed in beautiful ways over the last few years because of our new Democratic majority. Teaming up with lawmakers from across the state, our progressive movement is on the march.

I’ve worked with my colleagues to pass critical legislation like the Equal Rights Amendment, broadband expansion, LGBTQ+ protections, strengthened gun safety laws, and Medicaid expansion -- which gave 400,000 Virginians access to affordable, quality health insurance. Just in time for the worst pandemic of our lifetimes.

Now I want to continue our fight as Lieutenant Governor. I know how to lead, I know how to get legislation passed by bringing all the stakeholders to the table, and I know how to work with people even if I don’t agree with them on everything, to make progress in the Commonwealth.

The issue at hand is this, John, only once since 1976 has Virginia elected a governor of the same party as the president elected the preceding year -- and that’s why we need a strong Lt. Governor on the ticket.

With everything on the line, we can’t risk losing this election to a far-right opponent, and that’s why I’m launching a $25,000 goal by Friday. I’m asking you to chip in $5, $10, $25, whatever you can to my campaign to elect a progressive leader to the Lt. Governor’s office and keep Virginia moving forward.

Thank you for all your support, and I look forward to gearing up for 2021.

Best,

Hala Ayala
