Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives
Good jobs. Secure Families. Strong Communities.
 Dear Friend,

As I end my time as your representative and as Speaker of the House, please know that it has been the privilege of my life to represent you in the Maine State Legislature. Thank you for putting your trust in me.

I have always believed that each of us has a responsibility to each other and that each of us has to actively seek out how we will make a difference and make progress for people. When I first ran for this seat eight years ago, it was with that very intention. And looking back, I'm so proud of the work that we accomplished together.

In these years, we passed bills to expand health care coverage, reign in the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs, lift up working Maine families, support our schools, improve broadband access and provide meaningful property tax relief. We created common ground in our work to support Maine families and build an economy that works for everyone. Because in the end, prosperity for every family in Maine is the common goal that we all share.

Personally, I focused on policies protecting and expanding reproductive health care and family planning, lifting children out of poverty, tackling the opioid epidemic and addressing the climate emergency. But as Speaker, I also believed my responsibility was greater than policy making. It was also about creating an environment where people saw each other as individuals and partners - instead of political party representatives or rivals. It was about getting work done and making progress. It was about a government of the people and for the people.

While my time as your state representative has come to an end, my work to improve our community and State will not. I still believe, with all my heart,  that we have the power to lift each other up, to improve the lives of our fellow human beings and that it is our absolute responsibility to do so. That will never change.

Thank you again for allowing me to serve as your representative. It has truly been an honor.
